AI seats
On the Basic plan, all users with AI access can use AI-powered features through JetBrains Air within their limit of AI credits. On the Business or Enterprise plan, every user with AI access also requires a paid AI seat, which is how your organization pays for the extra features, such as custom policies and third-party AI providers. For more information, see Plans and pricing.
The chosen plan applies to the whole organization, so you can't keep some users on the Basic plan. If your organization needs advanced Air Governance features, you select a paid plan and purchase enough AI seats for all users who need access to AI-powered features. Service accounts don't require an AI seat regardless of the plan.
You can start a Business plan trial to try paid features for free. During the trial, every user with AI access gets an AI seat.
When a user loses AI access, for example, when you revoke it or delete the user from the organization, their seat returns to the pool. A released seat goes to the user with AI access who has been without a seat the longest. For details, see Users without AI seats.
When a user with an AI seat works with AI-powered features, their usage is charged in AI credits from your organization's shared pool, within their credit limit. For details, see AI access.
You buy AI seats when you upgrade to a paid plan. To add more seats later, use the AI settings page or click Buy seats in the AI seats available information card on the AI access page. For details about how AI seats are billed, see Plans and pricing.
How many AI seats you need
AI seats are assigned to all users with AI access, even those who never use AI-powered features, so we recommend granting AI access to as many users as you have AI seats. This means you should ideally buy enough AI seats for all users who need AI access.
For example, if 50 users have AI access and you buy 40 AI seats, 10 users won't be able to use AI-powered features until you buy more AI seats or revoke AI access from users who don't need AI-powered features. You can't choose which 10 users are left without AI seats. For details, see Users without AI seats.
Before you buy seats, review who has AI access and revoke it from users who don't need AI-powered features. If AI access is granted to everyone, every user in your organization needs an AI seat. To give seats only to some users, first switch to granting AI access manually per user, then revoke AI access from the users who don't need it.
After the upgrade, if you plan to grant AI access to more users, buy additional AI seats first.
Monitor AI seats
On a paid plan, the AI access page shows how AI seats are distributed in your organization: how many seats are still available, and which users have no AI seat.
View the number of available AI seats
In the sidebar, under AI governance, select Access.
If you don't see this page, your role doesn't have the necessary permissions.
Select the Users tab.
Review the value in the AI seats available information card at the top of the page.
The card shows how many AI seats are still available out of the total number purchased.
Users without AI seats
A user can be left without an AI seat when your organization has fewer AI seats than users with AI access. This can happen in the following cases:
When switching to a paid plan, your organization purchased fewer AI seats than it has users with AI access.
AI access was granted automatically to more users than there are AI seats in the shared pool:
When AI access is granted to all users in your organization.
When you grant AI access to a group.
When a user joins a group that has AI access.
Without an AI seat, a user cannot use AI-powered features and doesn't consume AI credits.
The Seat column on the Users tab shows whether a user has an AI seat. Users with no seat are marked with the No seat tag. When at least one user on the Users tab has the No seat tag, the Users without AI seats value appears in the AI seats available information card.
Identify users without AI seats
In the sidebar, under AI governance, select Access.
If you don't see this page, or the controls on this page are inactive, make sure your role has the necessary permissions.
Select the Users tab.
In the AI seats available information card, click Show next to the Users without AI seats value.
The table shows only the users without AI seats. They get AI seats automatically when seats become available in the shared pool.
You can't manually reassign an AI seat from one user to another, but you can do the following:
Buy more AI seats. Users without a seat will get one automatically.
Revoke AI access from users who no longer need it. Each released seat goes to the user who has been without a seat the longest, and you can't choose which user gets it. If a user whose AI access you revoked needs AI-powered features again, grant them AI access when a seat is available. Revoking direct access doesn't remove access through a group.
