Configure Air Mate
You choose what Air Mate works with when you set it up, and you can change it at any time in Air Teams. Only project admins can change a team Air Mate; other project members see its settings read-only.
Change an Air Mate's settings
Open the Air Mate:
For a team Air Mate, go to Projects, select the project, and click the Air Mate in the Air Mates section.
For your personal Air Mate, go to .
Open the options menu and select Edit.
Change the settings described below and save them.
To apply the changes, open the options menu and select Restart, or Start if Air Mate isn't running. Wait for its ready message in Slack.
To set up another team Air Mate with similar settings, open the options menu of an existing one and select Duplicate…. It opens the form with a copy of the settings, which you can change before you create it.
Set rules
Rules are the instructions Air Mate follows in every conversation, such as your review process or actions to leave to a person. Requests in Slack can't override them: if a request contradicts the rules, Air Mate doesn't perform it and replies that it contradicts its rules. For example:
Rules guide behavior but don't restrict access. To make sure Air Mate can't do something, limit the permissions of its repository and connectors.
Give Air Mate the code, tools, and secrets it needs
In Repository or environment, select a GitHub repository, or an environment configuration when Air Mate needs more than the code:
Dependencies – add a startup script to install them before Air Mate starts. You can also ask Air Mate to install a tool in Slack; it stays in its cloud environment.
Secrets – store credentials as shared secrets in the environment, as described in Variables and secrets. A team Air Mate runs under the project's service account, so it can't read personal secrets.
An environment configuration can be shared with other work in the project, so changes to it affect that work too.
Connect external services through MCP
Air Mate uses external services, such as YouTrack, through MCP connectors – managed connections to the services' MCP servers. Under Connectors, click Add Connector and select the service. Which connectors you can choose from depends on the kind of Air Mate:
Team Air Mate – the project's connectors, signed in with a shared account. Everyone in a connected channel can use that access through Air Mate. See Add connectors to a project.
Personal Air Mate – your personal connectors from , signed in with your own account, so Air Mate acts as you. See Add a personal connector.
The account behind a connector decides which MCP tools Air Mate can use and what it can read and change in the service.
Air Mate also loads MCP servers from an .mcp.json file in its repository – see MCP servers via .mcp.json.
Delete an Air Mate
Delete an Air Mate when the team no longer needs it, or to stop it right away. To stop it answering in just one conversation, disconnect it instead.
Delete a team Air Mate
Go to Projects and select the project.
In the Air Mates section, open the options menu next to the Air Mate and select Delete….
Confirm the deletion.
Air Mate stops answering in every channel it was connected to. To use Air Mate there again, connect another one.
